新作 “HISUI” を発表します。
縁あって初めて翡翠を手にしたのは2022年のこと。
新潟県の糸魚川から託された緑色のその石は、冷んやりとしてどこか近寄りがたく感じられました。
翡翠との距離が縮まったのはその一年後、盆栽真柏のリサーチのために糸魚川を訪ねたことがきっかけです。

糸魚川は日本列島を二分するフォッサマグナの西縁に位置します。
2000万年前、日本列島は東西に分かれて大陸を離れ、隆起や沈降を繰り返しながらやがてひとつの島となっていきます。5億年前から地下深く眠っていた糸魚川の翡翠は、そうした地殻変動のなかで地表に現れた日本の国石です。

初作では、糸魚川に通ううちに出会った翡翠の山石からものづくりを始めました。
新潟大学に分析を依頼し、ひすい輝石を90％以上含む上質な翡翠（Jadeite）にこだわりました。翡翠は単結晶である多くの宝石と異なり、小さな結晶が緻密に絡み、強靭さでダイヤを凌ぐとも言われています。厳選した原石からありのままに磨きだされたシンプルなカボションは、まるで水を湛えたような翡翠本来の光沢と滑らかな石肌を生かした非ワックス処理仕上げです。

糸魚川の翡翠は古代の人々の祈りと深く結びついてきました。
遥かなる時を超え、同源の石を身につけるというめぐり合わせ。あらゆる命に力をもたらすような翡翠の神秘は、今日のまなざしと結びつき新たな物語を紡ぎ出すことでしょう。



Introducing “HISUI”. 
I happened upon jade (Hisui) for the first time back in 2022. 
The green stone, given to me from Itoigawa in Niigata prefecture, felt cool to the touch and slightly unapproachable. 
A year later, our distance grew closer when I visited Itoigawa on a trip to research Bonsai tree.

Itoigawa is situated on the western edge of the Fossa Magna that divides the Japanese archipelago in two. 
20 million years ago, the Japanese archipelago separated from the continent heading east and repeated convergence and subduction until it became one island. The jade of Itoigawa that had slept in the depths of the earth since 500 million years ago, is a national stone that rose to the surface through this crustal deformation. 

Our first piece in jade started from crafting mountain jade that I discovered through my frequent visits to Itoigawa.
The stones are analyzed by Niigata University and only high-quality jade with more than 90% jadeite are used. Contrary to many jewels that are often a single crystal, jade is an intricate tangle of small crystals, which some say, makes it stronger than the diamond. The carefully selected gemstone is polished while preserving the stone’s innate beauty and the simple cabochon born as a result features an unwaxed finish that brings out the brilliance and smoothness of the stone like calm water.

Since ancient times, jade of Itoigawa has been deeply tied to prayer. The rock of the same origin has transcended through the realms of time and found its way to us. The mystic power of the jade that instills lives with power is bound to connect and start weaving a new story for the modern day.
